Splash Station Waterpark, 2780 Channahon Rd., Joliet, IL 60436 • 815-741-PARK (7275)

Opened in August 2002, Joliet’s Splash Station Waterpark was a joint venture between the City of Joliet and the Joliet Park District. Former Empress Casino owner Horseshoe Gaming Corporation, and its chairman, Jack Binion, and current owner, Argosy Gaming Company, donated 20 acres of land to the City of Joliet and Joliet Park District.

“This donation was crucial to the development of the water park,” said Ronald Dodd, Executive Director of the Joliet Park District. “We are truly grateful for the support from these organizations.”

Splash Station’s site was originally a gravel strip mining operation dating back to 1903. A railroad line moved the gravel across the property along U.S. Route 6 for processing; therefore, the railroad motif for the park was developed. This former gravel strip mine is now an exciting entertainment destination accommodating 2600 visitors daily. The historic railroad theme is apparent everywhere from the bathhouse designed to resemble a train depot, to signs directing visitors to attractions.

Splash Station enjoyed its first full season of fun in 2003. Joliet’s Splash Station Waterpark includes:

  • Miner’s Mountain: The Midwest’s only 200 foot, six -lane racing slide
  • Raging Rapids Ravine: An 865 foot lazy river
  • The Rattler: Enclosed body slide
  • Hot Shot: Open body slide
  • The Tunnel: Open tube slide
  • The Gauntlet: Enclosed tube slide
  • Pelican Pond: Zero depth pool
  • Tumbleweed Pass: Sandy Play Area
  • Dining Car Cafe: Full Service Concessions

Drag Racing Popular In Joliet, Illinois

The 8th Annual Nitto Tire NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing Presented by Miller Welders event that is held at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois is the fourth stop on the 2013 tour. As the swing event in the points chase, this means that the racers in each class are looking to position themselves well for a second-half charge to the top of the points standings. This event is one of the most popular on the tour, and the excellent track surface at Route 66 is one of the main reasons why.

Over the last several years, the Route 66 surface has been home to many record-setting passes and more than a few wild and wooly rides from some of the world’s top small-tire competitors. There will be more than 30 race classes across both sanctioning bodies, and the car show will be full of incredible machines. True Street will also be full of the nation’s quickest real street cars vying for the right to say they were the ‘King Of Illinois’ for 2013. And last year in the Super Bowl portion of the event, the NMRA came out on top over the NMCA for the fifth time in seven years – will the NMCA’s class winners be able to close the gap this year? You’ll only know if you show up, so make your plans now!

Do you want to race your car? Join other True Street racers, with passengers, on a 30-mile NMCA-escorted cruise to prove the street worthiness of all cars in competition. Next hit the track for 3 back-to-back passes and then watch as NMCA presents cash and awards to the overall fastest, runner-up and to each racer with the closest average to 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 seconds!
